Back 40 Story September 2018 hike: Fall wildflowers
Join Cheryl Hall as she leads you through the forest to identify beautiful wildflowers found in bloom during the Arkansas autumn.
The hike will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, starting from the Buckingham Trailhead.
Hall is a Certified Master Naturalist. As a student, her studies at Arkansas Tech University and the University of Arkansas Little Rock centered around the natural world. Now she is a nature artist and photographer, birder, mushroom hunter, avid fly fisher and seeker of rare and endangered wild flowers in Benton County. Her work with the state botanist and local officials has offered her the opportunities to deepen her interest in nature.
This hike will be approximately 2.5 miles round trip and is moderately strenuous. Appropriate clothing and shoes are required. Participants should also bring insect repellent, sunscreen and water. The Back 40 Trails are singletrack, which means they are dirt, narrow and sometimes rocky or have exposed tree roots. The trails are not appropriate for strollers. Friendly dogs are welcome on a leash.
There is no cost for these hikes, presented by the City of Bella Vista. The Buckingham Trailhead is located off Trafalgar Road on Buckingham Drive. Limited parking is available at the trailhead, and participants can park along Buckingham Drive as long as they are not blocking emergency vehicle traffic or residences. Please DO NOT PARK in the right of way along Trafalgar Road. A shuttle service will be available from the Church of Latter Day Saints (1 Lambeth Dr.) to the Buckingham trailhead starting at 8:30 a.m.
